Wet Dash Roughcasting Across Scotland

About wet dash

In wet dash roughcasting, the chip (aggregate) is mixed with cement or render and thrown onto the wall while the base coat is still wet, so the two bond together. This traditional method is valued for its durability and the way it copes with Scotland's wet, exposed weather.

Signs you need this

Wet dash is chosen both for matching an existing traditional roughcast finish and for new roughcasting work where a durable, classic textured look is wanted.

Wet Dash FAQs

What's the difference between wet dash and dry dash? +

Wet dash throws the chip onto a wet base coat so they bond as one layer; dry dash presses dry aggregate into wet render. Both are traditional roughcast methods with a similar appearance but different application techniques.

Is wet dash more durable than modern render systems? +

Wet dash roughcast has a long track record on Scottish buildings, though durability depends on installation quality and maintenance either way. We can advise on the best option for your property.

Can wet dash match my existing roughcast? +

We can usually source a similar chip size and colour, though some variation against an older, weathered finish is normal.
